The winter season is upon us, we’ve reached the halfway point in the year and the kids are slowly but surely wrapping up this term and getting themselves ready for a fortnight (or so) of freedom!
But what to do, what to do? After all, being outside in the chilly weather isn’t ideal. Well, never fear – keep reading for some great ideas!
Feel like getting out of the house for some adventure but staying indoors? Get a day pass to Sea Life, Melbourne Aquarium and get up close and personal with what’s within the great blue waters.

Take a little road trip out of Melbourne and head to Sovereign Hill for some gold digging, or even a VIP Wildlife Encounter.
If the little ones are wanting something a little more hands-on, take a trip into Melbourne’s CBD to visit the Top Arts exhibition at the Ian Potter Centre which showcases young artists’ exploration through different media and times.
Let them construct with building blocks and engage in stories at North Melbourne Library for the Building Block Stomp, or encourage the art of recyclables as they utilise recycled materials to create at the City Library’s Construct-O-Rama!
Rainy days are the perfect time to stay inside and get creative with your little ones! Indulge in finger painting, pastels and watercolours, colouring…and explosions!
Get creative with your indoor winter activities and a little science into the mix by creating amazing explosions! Another great activity that’s fun (and tasty) for everyone? Cooking, of course! Whether it’s cookies, cakes or ice cream sundaes, it’s easy to add a little flair and have something for everyone!

Holidays are also a great time to work on a little DIY project or encourage the artist within. Check out our blog on Upcycling and the blessing of watercolour painting.
When you really think about it, there really is a lot of creativity to be had! And the best sort of creativity? Well, the classes that we put on, of course! We have two classes that are sure to keep the kids interested—and hey, they’re both going to be held at The Pancake Parlour—who doesn’t love pancakes?!
